The town and surrounding region have an oceanic climate due to the altitude and surrounding mountains, which means long warm summer days and cold winter nights. Depending on when you visit, Queenstown can get wet as it lies within the rain shadow of the Southern Alps. While rainfall is fairly constant throughout the year, it does peak in mid-summer and mid-winter.
